This white long grain rice is arguably the most familiar and easily
recognizable rice in traditional American recipes, and it's also popular
in Asian and Mexican cuisine. Compared to other varieties of rice, it
has a mild flavor and light and fluffy texture when cooked.
Take a saucepan and add 1 cup of Riceland rice, 2 cups of water, and 1
teaspoon of salt plus one tablespoon of butter (if desired). Bring the
water to a boil. Turn the heat down very low, cover with a lid, and
simmer for 15 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand covered for 5
minutes. Fluff and serve!
Due to the starch composition of white long grain rice, it has a
slightly sticky consistency that's useful in stuffing, casseroles, and
stir-fry dishes. Serve this rice plain or flavor it with cilantro,
basil, or a blend of herbs, seasonings, and vegetables for a signature
rice pilaf. Mix up a bowl of flavorful rice and beans or create Mexican
rice to serve alongside tacos and enchiladas. Plain white long grain
rice is also a classic accompaniment for your Asian fusion entrees and
teriyaki chicken.
