New 166-Page Booklet

Early days in Washington County, AR, are recalled in this spiral bound booklet, comprised of excerpts from the 1889 book, Goodspeed's History of Benton, Washington, Carroll, Madison, Crawford, Franklin and Sebastian Counties, Arkansas. The 166-page booklet is printed on quality paper. A vinyl sheet has been added to protect the front cover.

 The first part of the booklet contains a history of the county: Physical features -- Topography, Geology, etc.; Settlement and Early Scenes; County Organizations; County Officers; Elections; County Finances; Railroads; Societies; Population; Courts and Crime; Attorneys; Military History, including extensive coverage of the Civil War; Cities, Towns and Villages -- Fayetteville, Springdale, Elm Springs, West Fork, Prairie Grove, Boonsboro, Evansville, Cincinnati, etc.; Education, including Cane Hill College, Fayetteville Female Seminary,  Ozark Institute, Elm Springs Academy, Arkansas Industrial University; Churches; Post offices; and other items of interest.  

Besides the many names mentioned in the first part of the booklet, there are biographies of many county residents of yesteryear. Most are quite lengthy, and often include ancestors, previous residences, children, in-laws, affiliations, war records, and business activities. In the course of this they often shed light on the early businesses, professions and institutions in the county.
