New! 131-Page Book

Early days in Story County, IA, are recalled through colorful tales and factual data in this brand new 131-page book, a reprint of the hard-to-find: A History of Story County, Iowa by William G. Allen, first published in 1887 by the Iowa Printing Company.

This new spiral bound book is printed on 11" x 8.5" 60# bond paper. The tri-color cover is on 80# card stock, with the front protected by a vinyl sheet. We were able to fit two pages from the original book on each sheet in our booklet, so it contains quite a bit of information, although we did eliminate a few passages.

Our book, entitled History of Story County, Iowa USA, is one of over 950 historic titles we have reproduced, all preserving the writings of early historians.

Among the subjects discussed are: the Location of the county seat at Nevada; Early boundary of Story County; War dance by Indians in 1856; Centennial Oration by Col. John Scott; Political history; Story County Advocate (newspaper); State Agricultural College; Court Cases; Early Settlements and Settlers; Churches -- Methodist, Presbyterian, Lutheran, Catholic and others; Masonic Order; Odd Fellows; Early Roads; the town of Ames; Homicides and other items; Civil War History; Lafayette and Howard Townships by R.W. Ballard; Grand Army of the Republic; Cyclones; the Great Chicago & Northwestern Railway; Other detailed township reports; history of mills, groves, storne quaries, etc.; Newspapers; a "partial history of the Nevada School" and other interesting items.

The book does not have individual biographies, but there are hundreds of names listed in various places: county officers, attorneys, business owners, pensioners (with the amount received for various ailments), veterans attending a reunion in 1886, teachers, marriage licenses, pre-1858 settlers, real estate transfers; veterans buried in Nevada Cemetery and elsewhere; and persons buried in the following cemeteries: Nevada,  Pleasant Grove, Sheffield, Center Grove, Sowers', Gilbert, Ames, Colo, Zearing, Mullen, Mound, Ontario and New Philadelphia, Cambridge, Woodland, Maxwell, Story City, Roland, Born, Baldus, Bloomington and others.

Wouldn't this make a great gift!
