CLARK COUNTY, OHIO

Early days in CLARK COUNTY, including
Springfield, New Carlisle, South Charleston, and Enon, are recalled through a mixture of colorful tales and factual data in this NEW 32 Page Booklet reprinted from the 1892 Centennial edition of Henry Howe's Historical Collections of Ohio, The Ohio Guide (a 1940 WPA Writers project), and other hard-to-find sources. The spiral-bound booklet is printed one-sided on quality paper with the print enlarged for easier reading.

Illustrations include Fern Cliff, an 1846 sketch of Springfield, and an early sketch of Wittenberg College.

Among the many and diverse topics in the booklet are: anecdotes concerning the life and death of Tecumseh, a the famous Indian chief, adventures of William Rogers Clark and William Henry Harrison, the Frankenstein family and homestead, the new Wittenburg College, the Rev. E. H. Cumming, artist Worthington Whittridge, Col. Robert L. Kilpatrick of the "Black Watch" regiment, Speaker of the House of Representative J. Warren Keefer, Reuben Miller's epitaph, and pioneer inventor James Leffel.
GENEALOGY BUFFS will find a list of 1888 county officers and businesses. A 1933 history of newspapers in the county, an article on a Pioneer Mother statue, a 1941 look at Wittenberg College, a look at Springfield attractions in 1940, a map showing the 88 Ohio counties and a map of 1805 Ohio are also included.
