BIOGRAPHY:

Orlando Manuel Cepeda Pennes (born September 17, 1937) is a former Major League Baseball first baseman.

Cepeda was born to a poor family. His father, Pedro Cepeda, was a baseball player in Puerto Rico, which influenced his interest in the sport from a young age. His first contact with professional baseball was as a batboy for the Santurce Crabbers of Puerto Rico. Pedro Zorilla, the team's owner persuaded his family to let him attend a New York Giants tryout. He played for several Minor League Baseball teams before attracting the interest of the Giants, who had just moved to San Francisco.

During a career that lasted sixteen years, he played with the San Francisco Giants (1958–66), St. Louis Cardinals (1966–68), Atlanta Braves (1969–72), Oakland Athletics (1972), Boston Red Sox (1973), and Kansas City Royals (1974). Cepeda was selected to play in seven Major League Baseball All-Star Games during his career, becoming the first player from Puerto Rico to start one. In 1978, Cepeda was sentenced to five years in prison on drug possession charges, of which he served ten months in prison and the rest on probation. In 1987, Cepeda was contracted by the San Francisco Giants to work as a scout and "goodwill ambassador." In 1999, Cepeda was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee.

Consiste en una medalla grande tamaño dólar de plata, unos 38-40mm, en bronce con terminación "antique" la imagen del toletero y su número, y la fecha de exaltación al salón de la fama y su equipo al reverso. Tiene leve porosidad o coloración al reverso y en su borde, ver fotos, es la misma medalla que usted recibirá. Viene en cápsula de plastico para protegerla. 

This official 1999 SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS commemorative medal, honors ORLANDO CEPEDA who in that year was inducted into MLB's Hall of Fame, with the purpose of paying tribute to his feats and set the example for furture generations of young players to come. It is in antique Bronze, about 38-40mm Silver Dollar sized, and its reverse features the exact date he was exalted to the HOF.  It shows some subtle staining on the back and in the reeded edge rim. You will receive the very same medal shown in the photos. It comes in protective plastic capsule to keep it from damage.

Because you paid for a medal or coin, and not for an acrylic capsule, we are not to be held responsible over capsules received cracked or broken. Medals received from the factory will feature minor scratches or nicks over which we shouldn't be held responsible. Likewise, vintage items we sell may feature imperfections due to age, tear, and wear, which may not reflect on the photos.  Due to this, we will only replace or provide refund on items received greatly damaged. Clients maliciously seeking to take advantage of the system by placing bogus or exaggerated claims will be blocked from making future business with us.
