This listing is for an Antique 19th Century Large American Pictorial Hooked Rug on Burlap with Design of two Doves / Caws / Other Birds on Bare Tree Branches , and a flower , Measuring 70 inches by 106 inches or roughly 6x9 feet,  weighing 40 lbs. as shown.

There is an old story about two birds on tree branches. One is in the lower branches and the other is at the tree's peak, looking out on the view. The lower bird represents the anxious ego, the one that jumps around doing things and trying to attain others, while being blind to the bigger picture, and the on on top , looking into future and what might be.

I am sure it is 19th century and at that probably early 19th C. Wool and cotton fabric shreds on burlap, museum mounted on a layer of cotton or linen .

Not washed while in my possession.

A detailed and complex effort has been put into keeping this rug together. Repairs throughout with a grid museum mount on the heavier cotton fabric with additional repairs over this backing mount,The Burlap foundation is brittle and there are pops / breaks as shown which need to be secured along with other breaks and mends. There is an overall spread stain about the top left of head of lower bird to bottom of the upper bird which I am not sure if any attempt has been made to clean it further, or if all restoration done is done without any wash to start with, which would make sense. I have got a $1500 wash quote with no guarantees so this one I leave to buyer to deal with . The spread stain is in so many ways acceptable although think a professional wash is possible and will take out good part of this spread stain and add much life to this piece.

I rate this the most amazing Early American Hooked Rug I have ever got my hands on. It is definitely a one of a kind gem.

It will be shipped rolled as shown in the last image .

All shipments will be Insured with the exception of specific items listed to be shipped by Postal First Class Mail or Media Mail which will travel Uninsured at buyer's risk. I pack extremely well.

Great News On International shipments: Ebay has instituted a new International Shipment Option around March of 2020 Which is Insured up to $100 USD, Shows Delivery Confirmation and uses First Class. This option has resolved Issues with First Class Shipments which cannot be insured and did not show a delivery confirmation, hence I am adding a Shipment option called EBAY INTERNATIONAL STANDARD DELIVERY which in general is cheaper and roughly about half the cost of Priority Mail offered on Items that are under $100 and under 4 lbs of weight. If you do not see this option, ask for it and I will add it to the listing if I have missed to do so.Please note that in some cases the difference between priority mail and eBay International Standard Delivery is much less than 50% . In some cases about 19%  and less. This is because First Class is the method ebay International Standard Delivery uses and First Class uses larger denominations as oppose to 1 ounce at a time and I think like Half Pound or One Pound at a time.Look for this new option under shipping tab.
