Police officers routinely put themselves between civilians and myriad

dangers. From traffic control to crime investigations, these men and women

work tirelessly to uphold the laws of our land while keeping communities

safe and secure. Theirs is a job fraught with great risk; when necessary, they

run toward danger with little thought of themselves as they move swiftly to

protect both life and property, while maintaining law and order.

A heartfelt way to recognize the valor and dedication of these men and

women who face danger each day in the line of duty!

Special features:

HONORS OUR EVERYDAY HEROES! Third coin in the series

About the Design:

Designed by Canadian artist Ken Ryan, the coin uses selective color

over detailed engraving in this detailed rendition of a police officer in

action. Engraved in the background is an iconic police car parked on

the side of a paved roadway, at the edge of an open space where a few

trees dot the rolling landscape. Selective color brings to life the dark

blue uniform of the police officer in the foreground, along with the red

striping on the pants and the band around the peaked police cap.

Responding to a crime in progress, the officer sprints into action with

right hand stretched towards the equipment belt that is within easy

reach, while the left hand brings a whistle to the officer’s lips.

Did you know…

There are nearly 69,000 police officers working across Canada.

Canada has a rate of roughly 194 police officers for every 100,000

Canadians.

Ontario, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Quebec are the only

provinces to have a separate provincial police service.

We often think of police officers maintaining law and order here at

home, but they’re also involved in international peacekeeping

missions! In fact, police represented 70% of Canada’s contributions

and 72% of the United States’ contribution to United Nations

peacekeeping efforts in May 2014.

The Canadian Peace and Police Officers’ Memorial on Parliament

Hill bears the names of 850 officers killed in the line of duty.
