عن الكتاب : مذكرات السلطان عبد الحميد الثاني تعد من بين أهم المذكرات خلال القرن العشرين، لطول مدة حكمه من جهة، وإرتباط عهده بمتغيرات دوليّة كبيرة لا تزال تلقي بظلالها على واقعنا السياسي من جهة أخرى

وعلى الرغم من صدور تلك المذكرات منذ أمد طويل، إلا أن لهذه النسخة أهمية خاصة، فهي "أول ترجمة عربية، لنسخة المذكرات الأولى التي نشرت في مجلة عطارد التركية في سنة 1919م

إن أجل شيء تميل إليه النفوس البشرية هو الوقوف على أحوال المشاهير ونوابغ الرجال وعظمائهم من أهل الدهاء والحنكة، وعلى ما خلدوه من الآثار النافعة والأعمال المستحسنة، ولا سيما الإطلاع على أحوال الملوك وأعمالهم الخاصة، وعلى حركاتهم الإداريّة والسياسية التي هي من أجل ما يتنافس فيه المتنافسون ومن ذلك الكتاب المُسمَّى مذكرات السلطان عبد الحميد الموضوع باللغة التركية

وقد حرصت شركة دار الوراق منذ مدة على نشر كل ما هو نادر من كتب ونفائس مندثرة، وتمثل هذه النسخة من الترجمة لمذكرات السلطان عبد الحميد إحدى تلك النفائس المجهولة التي طواها النسيان ولم يلتفت أو يُشر إليها أحد إلا ما ندر

يحمل غلاف النسخة التي تقدمها في هذا الكتاب بعض المعلومات عن تلك الترجمة، إذ ورد فيه اسم السيد وداد عرفي، الذي ذكر الدكتور محمد حرب أنه رئيس تحرير مجلة عطارد التركية وورد أيضاً اسم المترجم، وهو السيد محمد علي عبد الله الذي لن نتمكن، للأسف، من العثور على سيرة أو نجد أعمالاً أخرى له، وربما يكون هذه الترجمة هي العمل الوحيد المطبوع له، وورد على الغلاف أيضاً اسم المطبعة، وهي مطبعة السلام في بغداد، وسنة النشر التي كانت 1919

الموضوع : " مُذكّرات السلطان عبد الحميد الثاني " السلطان عبد الحميد أثير العديد من الجدل حوله وتفرق البعض كمعارضين له و آخرون كمؤيدين.. إقترن اسمه بفكرة الجامعة الإسلامية ودعاتها ومن أهمهم "جمال الدين الأفغانى" وأيضاً دوراً بارزاً فى القضية الفلسطينية ومعارضة نشأة الدولة اليهودية ومعاداته للصهيونية ومن المصادر التركية والعثمانية يقدم الدكتور (محمد حرب) شخصية السلطان عبد الحميد الثانى" من خلال قلمه ومن خلال مذاكرات السطان نفسه مترجمة وقد قام الدكتور (محمد حرب) بإستعراض حياة السلطان ودوره فى المسائل العربية ثم ضد اليهود وأخيراً مع الإتحاد والترقى، تاركاً الحديث بعد هذا لمذكرات السلطان وسطورها تتحدث إلى القارئ عن صاحبها. ترجع أهمية هذا الكتاب إلى أنه يبين لنا وجهة نظر السلطان عبد الحميد لما جرى من أحداث عزله والقضاء على تاريخ الخلافة الإسلامية والتي طالما سمعناها من أعدائه الذين صوروه بصورة المستبد . يضم الكتاب مقدمة المترجم التي تحدث فيها عن سيرة السلطان عبد الحميد، ومذكراته التي تحوي مواقفه وخواطره وتحليله للأحداث التي حصلت فيكشف الخبايا ويربط الوقائع ويبين الأسباب بطريقة ميسرة
