TRansite & Chemtite pIpe CATALOG (1968)

Out-of-print, hard-to-find 8 1/2" x 11" paper catalog, 20 pages, from Johns-Manville, New York, NY.  Catalog is undated but was issued with a publication from 1968. There are references to specifications which are dated 1964.

Asbestos References:

Chemtite is a J-M trademark for its brand of asbestos-reinforced plastic pipe and accessory items.  The Chemtite products were meant for conveying highly corrosive fluids at temperatures from -50°F to +300°F and pressures to 150 psi. Also shown in this catalog is the simple, fast fabrication and installation of Chemtite where it states "Chemtite may be cut easily by hand, on-the-job using a chain vise and hacksaw. It may be threaded by hand or with power equipment."  This type of handling could have potentially released asbestos dust!!

Transite pipe is also mentioned in this catalog. Transite is a J-M trademarked asbestos cement product.  It was used for pressure pipe, fire lines, sewers, storm/water drainage and epoxy lined for corrosive applications.
