Personally Autographed postcard

EDGAR HOLLEY ~ Philadelphia Phillies (Portrait, blue ink)

Probably issued 1960s to 1980s by postcard seller Jim Rowe

A fine vintage postcard issued by longtime Chicago area postcard seller Jim Rowe, probably in the 1960s through 1980s.

Card size is 3-1/2" by 5-1/2" and carries a Photo Post Card back on Kodak stock.

The photograph, from which this postcard was made, was originally created between 1932 and '34, the years Edgar Holley pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies.

The personally signed autograph is bold blue ink.

About the subject: Edgar Holley began his professional baseball career in 1923 with the Louisville Colonels of the fast American Association and concluded it 14 seasons later with the Colonels. Never pitching lower than AA in an era when minor league ball ranged from Class D to AA, Holley turned in two fine big league performances, winning 11 and 13 games, respectively, for the 1932 and '33 Philadelphia Phillies, while leading Phillie pitchers in every category. Over-use likely led to his downfall because after the '34 season, Ed Holley returned to Double-A ball for a pair of largely ineffective years. According to the comprehensive Beckett Baseball Card Alphabetical Checklist book, Edward Holley appeared in just four Great Depression Era card sets: 1933 Butterfinger/Canadian (American Card Catalog V94), 1934 Baby Ruth Gum, 1934 Butterfinger Premiums (R310) and 1934 Goudey Gum Co.

Condition: Excellent - check the high-resolution scans, front and back; this is the actual card the buyer will receive. A blue background has been provided to permit evaluation of the card edges and corners.
