Description:

A cast bronze figural gold weight from the Akan region of West Africa (Ghana and Ivory Coast). These weights were used to measure gold dust which was the currency of the region and often depict proverbs or symbols from Akan culture. This one is modelled as a man carrying a flask on his head and smoking a pipe.


Identifying Marks / Makers Marks: Unmarked.
Age / date of manufacture:Late 19th / early 20th Century.
Size: Measures 2 5/8" (6.75 cm) tall.
 Condition: In good undamaged condition I have not polished this piece as I prefer the patina.
