If your front facing camera has stopped taking photos then the flex cable may have become faulty, you can use this replacement part to restore full function your front camera. Also located on this flex cable is a new proximity sensor and microphone (excluding iphone 4 and 4s, they have seperted cable for those 2 function). The microphone on this flex cable is responsible for Siri and the front camera sound.
