JAPAN 100 Yen, Emperor Hirohito, Showa Era Phoenix  Silver Coin

Nice original toning, uncleaned . VF condition.

This is a 100 yen silver coin minted in the year of Showa (1957- 1958). On the front it features a large sunburst, a prominent symbol of Japan, surrounded by blooming cherry blossoms, with "100 yen" and the date of Showa. On the reverse, there is a large phoenix with its wings spread, and "Country of Japan" and "100 yen" in Japanese kanji. Phoenixes are a sign of rebirth in Japanese art.

Slightly smaller than a US quarter at 1" or 2 cm. An excellent strike in very fine condition as shown in the photos (see enlarged). An unusual and limited edition coin.
