Mit Erscheinen der Big Five II. Serie setzt die South African Mint die Erfolgsgeschichte eines begehrten Klassikers fort. Die Serie umfasst erneut insgesamt fünf Münzen, die alle der beeindruckenden Tierwelt Südafrikas gewidmet sind. Die als "Big Five" bekannten Tiere - Elefant - Löwe - Büffel - Nashorn - Leopard - gelten als Wahrzeichen und Botschafter dieses kulturreichen Landes und repräsentieren die afrikanische Fauna. Entsprechend groß ist der Stellenwert dieser Münzserie. Die erste Ausgabe ist dem Elefanten gewidmet. Das Motiv der Münze aus einer Unze Gold zeigt eine detaillierte Nahaufnahme vom Kopf eines ausgewachsenen Elefanten. Die Aufschriften "SOUTH AFRICA", "BIG FIVE 2021" und das südafrikanische Wappen sind ebenfalls Bestandteil des Designs. Die Rückseite zeigt zwei Hälften eines Elefantenkopfes. Platziert man zwei dieser Münzen nebeneinander, erhält man ein vollständiges Nahaufnahmeporträt eines Elefanten. Wenn mehrere dieser Münzen nebeneinander gelegt werden, ist eine ganze Elefantenherde zu sehen. In der Mitte sind der Nennwert "FIFTY RAND", das Gewicht "1OZ" und die Feinheit "Au 999.9" abgebildet.
