You are bidding on a very rare set of antiquarian hardcover books titled The Works of James Thomson - With His Last Corrections and Improvements. The set is complete in four volumes and you are bidding on all four volumes. Books are printed in Edinbugh, England by J. Robertson For W. Anderson, Bookseller, Stirling, 1778.

This is a very scarce set from 1778! They have terrific engravings in them!

Books are Illustrated with 15 engravings, including the frontis portrait of the author. Each volume has a unique title page, in that they list the contents therein. Vol. I: Containing the Seasons. Vol. II: Containing Liberty, The Castle of Indolence, and Poems On Several Occasions. Vol. III: Containing Sophonisba, Agamemnon, and Alfred. Vol. IV: Containing Edward and Eleonora, Tancred and Sigismunda, and Coriolanus.

The books feature full leather binding. The spines has raised bands. The titling is in gold on red morocco labels. The volume numbers are in gold on black morocco labels. The leather labels are in surprisingly good condition with just a bit of curling to some edges. The covers are firmly attached. The leather binding shows some general wear/scuffing but is in overall very good condition. All pages are clean and tightly bound. There is a very old previous owner paste-down label on inside of front cover (Mary Harrod Bliss). Last blank page of Volume I has some penciled notes and a piece missing.

Books show some general wear but are in very good condition.

This is a very scarce set!!!
