You are bidding on a very rare hardcover book. I will do my best to describe it, although it appears to be in Latin and Greek and I don't read either. I think it is the Life of Saint Irenaei but I leave it to the experts to translate.
Here is what is on the title page:
Sancti Patris Irenaei Scripta Anecdota, Graece & Latine. Notisque ae Dissertationibus illustrata, Denique Liturgia Graeca - Jo. Ernesti Grabe. Aueta, Labore & Studio Christoph. Mathaei Pfaffii. Tomus Primus.
Lugduni Batavorum, Hagae Comitum et Francofurti Ad Moenum, Suptibus Societatie, 1743.
I conducted a search and could not find another book like this one!!!
There are 647 pages followed by an Index and Addenda & Emendanda. The pages are mostly clean and free of foxing, although a few pages have some foxing. The title page has the most but it is still quite readable. All pages are tightly bound. The book has hand-made laid paper.
The book has leather binding, although the covers have become detached and the leather spine is dry and cracked. The book is a candidate for rebinding.
There are two ink stamps and one bookplate from Stinnecke Maryland Episcopal Library - 1879 - The Legacy of Bp. Whittingham to His Diocese.
Because the covers are detached, I have significantly reduced the price of this book and am selling it, as is, with no returns.
This book would be a terrific addition to a collection.
Very rare and very collectible!
Great gift idea!
