It is the most comprehensive Afghan translation dictionary known in lexicography. It contains 50 thousand words of the modern Afghan language (Pashto), including everyday vocabulary, socio-political and widely used technical terminology.

The dictionary quite fully presents stable phrases, idiomatic expressions, proverbs and sayings. Afghan words are given a transcription based on Russian graphics, grammatical characteristics and grammatical forms are indicated. The dictionary is based on the vocabulary of the western dialect of the Afghan language, including the vocabulary and phraseology of the eastern dialect and regional words.

The dictionary is intended for translators, teachers and students of oriental universities, and can also be used in the study of the Russian language by Afghans.

Pashto (/ˈpʌʃtoʊ/,/ˈpæʃtoʊ/; پښتو / Pəx̌tó, [pəʂˈto, pʊxˈto, pəʃˈto, pəçˈto]), sometimes spelled Pukhto or Pakhto,is an Eastern Iranian language of the Indo-European family. It is known in Persian literature as Afghani (افغانی, Afghāni).

Spoken as a native language mostly by ethnic Pashtuns, it is one of the two official languages of Afghanistan, and is the second-largest provincial language of Pakistan, spoken mainly in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the northern districts of the Balochistan province. Likewise, it is the primary language of the Pashtun diaspora around the world. The total number of Pashto speakers is at least 40 million, although some estimates place it as high as 60 million. Pashto is "one of the primary markers of ethnic identity" amongst Pashtuns

В словаре достаточно полно представлены устойчивые словосочетания, идиоматические выражения, пословицы и поговорки. К афганским словам дается транскрипция на основе русской графики, грамматическая характеристика и указываются грамматические формы. В основу словаря положена лексика западного наречия афганского языка с включением лексики и фразеологии восточного наречия и областных слов.

Словарь предназначается для переводчиков, преподавателей и студентов востоковедных вузов, а также может быть использован при изучении русского языка афганцами.
