The rock that we currently have is fully cured. It was aquacultured in Fiji and collected from the ocean about 6 months ago. So unlike freshly collected rock there will be very little to no die off and can be added directly to your aquarium. The best benefit of adding live rock is the micro bacteria it has that keeps your aquarium healthy by acting as a biological filter, removing waste like ammonia, and nitrites. It also helps keep the PH at the proper level. The right amount of cured live rock can establish and cycle a new aquarium with in days which would usually take months with out. Generally it takes one to two pounds per gallon to establish a new aquarium this fast, smaller amounts will just take longer. Live rock also adds structure to the aquarium for fish to feel secure and is a base to create reef aquariums which corals can be attached to. Fresh uncured live rock will have a good amount of die off which will create high amounts of ammonia and nitrites and usually takes 3 to 4 weeks to cure and cycle out so we never recommend adding fresh uncured live rock to an established aquarium, when we have fresh shipments we will make sure you are aware but currently all our rock is cured and ready to add to any aquarium. We do recommend rinsing the rock in a bucket of aquarium salt water before adding to your aquarium. We can special order large amounts of freshly collected live rock at a lower bulk price, it usually takes one to two weeks. Large amounts over 50 pounds are much cheaper per pound, just send us a message if interested and we can get pricing for large amounts.
