Kent Taylor, a former awning salesman from Iowa who became best known for the title role on the 1950s TV detective series Boston Blackie   Boston Blackie, a one-time thief with a pencil mustache who became a detective, was a popular TV series in the '50s.

Mr. Taylor also made such movies as Ramona, The Daltons Ride Again with Lon Chaney Jr (1945), Death Takes a Holiday, Payment on Demand with Bette Davis (1951) and, his last film, Girls for Rent in 1974.   THE HORROR / SCIENCE FICTION CULT MOVIE "THE PHANTOM FOR 10,000 LEAGUES", 'THE ROUGH RIDERS", 'THE DAY MARS INVADED EARTH", 'THE CRAWLING HAND" AND "SATAN'S SADISTS".

His film career began in 1931 when his family moved to Los Angeles from Iowa, where he had played saxophone in a dance band and appeared in school plays. He worked as a salesman in the family awning business and worked as a movie extra until winning a screen test at Paramount.
