Lot Description:

An extremely rare and important Gilt-Bronze Buddhist Figure of Dorje Ta'og and original Pierced Silver Carrying Box , Tibetan - 18th Century Qianlong Period.

The figure has been confirmed to be Dorje Ta'og when cross referenced with several published works of literature as well as cross checked with the famous Thangka -

"The Gelugpa Field of Accumulation (Tibetan: tsog shing). Excerpt Taken From Himalayan Art Resources : "Dorje Ta'og is a special worldly protector of the Sera Monastery of the Gelug Tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. The protector was originally located at Samye Monastery and later relocated to Sera. The images depicted here show him riding a black horse or a lion. Also see a Gelug Refuge Field painting with Dorje Ta'og depicted at the bottom center below the line of Buddhist Wisdom Protectors.Special Features:- Wrathful in appearance, one face, two hands- Wearing a monk's style riding hat (but not a monk)- holding a vajra in the right hand- holding a vase in the left hand- Wearing multi-coloured lay garments- Riding a dark horse or lion"
