Die erste Ausgabe der neuen Serie Classic Superheroes ist Superman™ gewidmet. Geprägt von der New Zealand Mint aus drei Unzen 99,9% Silber, zeigt das Motiv eine detaillierte Darstellung des "Man of Steel" in seinem Kostüm bestehend aus Anzug und Umhang. Rechts neben ihm befinden sich eine Darstellung von Superman im Flug sowie das ikonische Superman-Logo. Im Hintergrund werden weitere Abbildungen von Superman sowie klassische Elemente aus den Comics angedeutet. Das Gewicht und die Feinheit der Münze sowie das Copyright sind ebenfalls im Design enthalten. Die Rückseite zeigt das Porträt von Königin Elizabeth II und die Inschriften "TEN DOLLARS", "ELIZABETH II", "2022" und "NIUE".
Der ursprünglich vom Planeten Krypton stammende Superman™ hatte seinen ersten Auftritt bereits im Jahr 1938. Der mit Superkräften ausgestattete Held hat es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, auf der Erde für Gerechtigkeit zu kämpfen. Seit 1960 zählt er gemeinsam mit Wonder Woman™, Aquaman™, Flash™, Green Lantern™, Batman™ und Martian Manhunter™ als Gründungsmitglied zur Justice League™ (zu deutsch: Gerechtigkeitsliga). The rimless coin was struck by the Perth Mint from five ounces of 99.99% pure silver and is dedicated to the Planets of our Solar system. The motive of the Antique Finish coin features a stylized representation of the solar system with the nine colored planets - Pluto, Mercury, Mars, Venus, Earth, Neptune, Uranus, Saturn and Jupiter - arranged clockwise and sorted by size. Other elements included in the design are a comet and the sun as it might look from the rocky surface of an orbiting asteroid. The reverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II as well as the weight, fineness, denomination and year of issue.
The formation of the solar system began an estimated 4.6 billion years ago when an interstellar cloud of dust and gas began to collapse in on itself. Over millions of years, the pressure and temperature in the core of this material increased, leading to the formation of the Sun. Over a period of about 100 million years, the young sun was surrounded by a disk consisting of dust and gas - with the help of gravitational forces, this matter clumped together and formed the first protoplanets. The largest of these masses gave rise to the planets known today in the solar system. The rocky versions, including the Earth, were formed in the immediate vicinity of the Sun, whereas the so-called gas and ice giants were formed at a greater distance. The strictly limited Planets of our Solar system - 5 Oz Antique Finish silver coin is delivered in the original box including a numbered certificate of authenticity of the Perth Mint.
