Die erste Ausgabe der neuen Serie Beauty, Rich & Rare wurde von der Royal Australian Mint aus einer Unze 99,99% reinem Gold in Polierter Platte geprägt und ist dem Great Barrier Reef gewidmet. Die konvexe Seite der gewölbten Münze zeigt eine farbige Darstellung des maritimen Weltwunders der Natur. Ein bunter Schwarm Fische, der sich quer über das Motiv erstreckt, wird von weiteren Bewohnern des Korallenriffs umgeben. Komplettiert wird das Design durch die Aufschriften "GREAT BARRIER REEF", "2022 BEAUTY, RICH & RARE" und den Nennwert "$100". Die gewölbte Form der Goldmünze verleiht dem Motiv zusätzliche Tiefe. Die Rückseite zeigt eine weitere Darstellung des Riffs sowie das Porträt von Königin Elizabeth II und Angaben zu Gewicht, Feinheit und Ausgabestaat.

Mit einer Länge von über 2.000 Kilometern und einer Fläche von 347.000 Quadratkilometern ist das Great Barrier Reef das größte Korallenriff-Ökosystem der Erde. Das berühmte Wahrzeichen des Roten Kontinents ist entlang der Nordostküste Australiens lokalisiert und setzt sich aus knapp 3.000 einzelnen Riffen zusammen. Aufgrund seiner beeindruckenden Größe ist es mit bloßem Auge vom Weltraum aus erkennbar. Das empfindliche Ökosystem beheimatet etwa 1.600 Fischarten, 1.500 Schwammarten, 5.000 Arten von Weichtieren, 800 Arten von Seesternen und Stachelhäutern, 500 Seetang-Arten und mehr als 200 Vogelarten. Auch seltenen Wal-, Delfin-, und Schildkrötenarten bietet das Great Barrier Reef einen Lebensraum. Die UNESCO erklärte das artenreiche Riffsystem am 26. Oktober 1981 zum Weltnaturerbe. Da der Fortbestand der größten von Lebewesen geschaffenen Riffstruktur durch verschiedene Faktoren - darunter Tourismus, Wasserverschmutzung und klimatische Veränderungen - stark gefährdet ist, hat die australische Regierung Maßnahmen zum Schutz des Great Barrier Reef eingeleitet - auch, um eine Einstufung durch die UNESCO als "gefährdetes Welterbe" zu verhindern. Umweltschützer sind sich jedoch einig, dass die Hilfspakete zu spät kommen und der Zustand des Riffsystems sich in den kommenden Jahrzehnten dramatisch verschlechtern wird.

The first issue of the new Series Beauty, Rich & Rare was struck by the Royal Australian Mint from one ounce of 99.99% pure gold in proof quality and is dedicated to the Great Barrier Reef. The convex side of the domed coin features a partially colored depiction of the maritime natural wonder. A colorful school of fish stretching across the motive is surrounded by other inhabitants of the coral reef. The inscriptions "GREAT BARRIER REEF", "2022 BEAUTY, RICH & RARE" and the denomination "$100" complete the design. The domed shape of the Gold coin adds depth to the design, creating a particularly realistic effect. The reverse shows another depiction of the reef, the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II as well as the weight, the fineness and the inscription "AUSTRALIA".

Covering a length of over 2000 kilometers and an area of 347,000 square kilometers, the Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef ecosystem on Earth. The famous landmark of the Red Continent is located along the northeast coast of Australia and is composed of nearly 3,000 individual reefs. Due to its impressive size, it is visible to the naked eye from space. The fragile ecosystem is home to about 1,600 species of fish, 1,500 species of sponges, 5,000 species of mollusks, 800 species of starfish and echinoderms, 500 species of kelp and more than 200 species of birds. The Great Barrier Reef also provides a habitat for rare species of whales, dolphins and turtles. UNESCO declared the species-rich reef system a World Heritage Site on October 26, 1981. As the continued existence of the largest reef structure created by living creatures is severely threatened by various factors - including tourism, water pollution and climatic changes - the Australian government has initiated measures to protect the Great Barrier Reef - also to prevent it from being classified by UNESCO as an "endangered world heritage site." Environmentalists agree, however, that the aid packages are coming too late and that the condition of the reef system will deteriorate dramatically in the coming decades.
