20 Elaeocarpus ganitrus Rudraksha seeds for planting Ceylon Olive Tree/ Weralu

Elaeocarpus ganitrus RudrakshaRudraksha is of great significance for Hinduism and Buddhism. The seeds of this tree are often worn as a prayer chain, because the wearer would then be protected by Lord Shiva. When Shiva opened his eyes after a long period of meditation, he left a tear: the legend says this tear grows in the Rudraksha tree. The number of grooves in the seeds further indicates how particular this seed is. Usually there are five (the five faces of Shiva),

Growing Rudraksha tree at home can be an excellent idea, as the tree is not only important religiously, it also has many health benefits. All parts of the tree have one or the other medicinal properties. Apart from that, growing this tree is not difficult, and you can easily grow them in your homes just by following these simple steps.

Propagation

It is always better to buy a healthy plant for nursery. You can also propagate this plant, through seeds, in your garden or pot. All you have to do is to collect the seeds from dried Rudraksha. You have to break them into two as it is vital to open the cover on the outside, as the seeds will not germinate under the hard woody cover.

Choosing a Pot

If you wish to grow your plant in a pot, then pick one that is 18-20 inches deep and at least 7-10 inches wide. Another thing to make sure is that your container must have good drainage.

Soil

Using a well-draining soil, rich in compost, is ideal for growing rudraksha plants. You can also use a nutrient-rich, compost-based soil, as these are easily available. It is advisable to use this soil when you are growing your plant in pots. Before putting the soil in the container, make sure you add a good amount of drainage material like gravel, pebbles, etc., at the base of the pot.

Location

The Himalayan states have the best climate to grow this tree, as the temperatures there remain moderate even during summers. In the places where the temperature is higher than 35°C, it is best to keep them under shade. It is easier to put them in the shade if you grow them in the pot. However, if you are growing them in your yard, you can choose a spot under a bigger tree.

Watering

Water the plants well. If you are planting Rudraksha in open yards, you can create a little slope to stop the water-logging in the area. Water at least two times in a day in summers and once in others. You do not need to water your rudraksha plant in the rainy season and once they’re established
