BESCHREIBUNG
Koloriertes Doppelblatt aus der Schedel´schen Weltchronik
mit der Stadtansicht der Stadt
K O N S T A N Z
am Bodensee in Baden Württemberg.
Vorderseitig mit großer und prächtig kolorierter Stadt-Ansicht von Konstanz,
rückseitig 7 Porträt-Holzschnitte, darunter mit Darstellung des Konstanzer Konzils.
Durchgängig rubriziert in Rot.
Das Blatt stammt aus der lateinischen Erstausgabe von 1493.

Bei den Stadtansichten in der Schedelschen Weltchronik handelt sich um die ersten gedruckten Abbildungen deutscher Städte überhaupt. Schedel und seine Künstler hatten selbst nur einen Teil der Städte bereist und mussten sich bei den Abbildungen teilweise auf Schilderungen von Dritten stützen. Somit gelten diese Stadtansichten als erstes grobes Abbild der Städte.

Das unter dem Titel "Liber chronicarum" - "Nürnberger Chronik" oder auch "Schedelsche Weltchronik" - bekannte Werk gilt als eines der am reichst illustriertesten Werke des frühen Buchdruckes.
Die Chronik enthält ca. 1.800 Textholzschnitte von Michael Wohlgemuth und W. Pleydenwurff, darunter 29 doppelblattgroße und Dutzende halbseitige Stadtansichten.
Über die Auflagenhöhe wurde und wird häufig spekuliert. Man nimmt heute an, dass von der lateinischen Ausgabe ca. 1.500 Exemplare gedruckt wurden.
Wieviel Exemplare die über 500 Jahre Geschichte überlebt haben, weiß niemand, aber eines ist Fakt:
Es handelt sich hierbei um eine absolute Rarität!

ZUSTAND
- das Blatt befindet sich in einem für das hohe Alter sehr guten Zustand.
- kräftiger Druck und festes Büttenpapier.
- geglätteter Mittelfalz
- entlang des Mittelfalzes zum Teil mit dünnem Japanpapier hinterlegt
- Blatt überwiegend in den Rändern leicht braunfleckig.

Nice coloured original leaf with the view of the town
C O N S T A N C E
from the first latin edition 1493 - Leaf CCXL / CCXLI (240/241).
Printed in the famous printing house of Anton Koberger in Nuremberg.
The city views in the Nuremberg Chronicle are the first printed images of German cities, which were ever printed. Schedel himself and his artists had traveled only a part of this cities and had to be partially based on descriptions by third parties during the illustrations. Thus, these cityscapes are considered first crude image of cities.

Under the title "Liber chronicarum" or "Nuremberg Chronicle" or also "Nuremberg Chronicle" known work is considered one of the most richly illustrated works of the early book-printing age.
The chronicle contains about 1,800 text woodcuts by Michael Wohlgemuth and W. Pleydenwurff, including 29 double-page and dozens of half-page city views.
Today it is assumed that 1,500 copies of this latin edition were printed.
No one knows, how many copies have survived over 500 years of history, but one thing is fact:
It is an absolute rarity!
