Plane Model Backstory:
The F4U fighter was developed by the Walter Corporation and first flew on 29 May 1940. It served with the US Army from World War II through the Korean War and remained in service in a number of countries after the Korean War into the 1960s. After the Korean War, the F4U remained in service in a number of countries until the 1960s. In the Pacific theatre of the Second World War, the F4U became the mainstay of the US Navy along with the F6F and a formidable opponent to the Japanese fighters. At the end of the war, according to US Navy statistics, the F4U had an impressive 11:1 shoot down ratio, meaning that for every 11 enemy aircraft shot down, only one F4U was shot down.
