This
particular coin is truly remarkable, with its intricate detailing and rich
history. It commemorates the Canadian soldiers who fought valiantly
during "Operation Jubilee" in August 1942. This Allied
operation resulted in the heaviest single-day loss for Canadian troops
during World War II. Of the 4,963 Canadians who landed, 3,350 were either
killed or taken prisoner.
The Germans
were aware of this mission due to intercepted communication. However, the
Allies had to proceed with the mission despite this knowledge, as they feared
that Germany would discover that their "Enigma" code had been broken.
The coin is
a rare collectible, with only 7,500 pieces ever minted by the Royal
Canadian Mint in 2017. Each coin comes with a serialized certification and
bears the effigy of King George VI. Made with 99.99%
pure silver, the coin has a diameter of 38mm and weighs 31.39g.
It
comes in a beautiful case that ensures its safety and preservation.
It is
important to note that this coin is no longer available from the Royal Canadian
Mint, so it is a rare opportunity to add it to your collection. It’s an important addition to any collection,
not just because of its monetary value but because of its history. Future generations need to be told what happened-
if we don’t remember history- there’s a good chance of repeating it.
