This lot consists of a 500 ml bag of high-quality freshwater Zooplankton Live Culture

Zooplankton are small animals that live in the water column of almost all water bodies, including lakes, swamps and ponds, although they mostly cannot survive in rivers and streams. They range in size from a few millimetres down to a few microns (one micron is equal to 1/1000 of a millimetre) and may include the larval stages of some larger creatures. The most common groups of Zooplankton include Infusoria, Paramecium, Cladocera, Copepods and Rotifers.

Zooplankton is used by owners of aquariums to feed fish fry; newly hatched fry of many common aquarium species can be successfully raised on this food during early development due to its size and nutritional content. Many home aquaria are unable to naturally supply sufficient Zooplankton for fish-rearing, so hobbyists may create and maintain their own supply cultures. Zooplankton can be cultured by adding dry grass in a jar of aged water. The culture will be grown in a few days, depending on the temperature and light received. The water may first turn cloudy, but it will clear up once the Zooplankton eats the bacteria which caused the cloudiness. At this point, the Zooplankton will be ready, and will usually be visible to the naked eye as small, white specks swimming in the container.

Zooplankton is one of the best live foods for the smallest fry. Culturing Zooplankton is relatively easy but your vessels need to be maintained on a rotational basis in order to keep the culture going. Flexible breeding strategy helps Zooplankton start culture multiply very fast, so your culture will be mature in a matter of days.
