Lovely Antique lidded tureen by John Edwards, Stoke-on-Trent. The tureen features popular Ophir Pattern, two handles and a lid.

Measures 12”W - handle to handle and about 7” H.

Condition: typical crazing throughout and a few discolorations spots. Wear and marks related to use; production/firing related imperfections. There is a chip on the rim of the tureen (please see photos). I haven’t noticed any cracks, repairs or other large chips. Sold As Is.

But besides the imperfections, the tureen looks lovely and a wonderful example of tableware of the epoch.

This tureen is featured on the potteries.org website in John Edward’s section.

Marked with the makers mark used 1891-1900.

John Edward’s was china & earthenware manufacturer at Longton and then King Street, Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent, England.

John Edwards operated a factory in Longton and around 1850 moved to the King Street Works in the adjacent town of Fenton. China and earthenware was produced until 1856 when only earthenware was made.

At sometime John Edwards was in partnership with James Edwards (relationship uncertain), James left the partnership in January 1865.

Between 1873 and 1879 "& Co" was included in the name.

A significant part of the output was semi-porcelain and white granite for the American markets.
