Elephant birds were members of the extinct family Aepyornithid. Made up from a group of flightless birds that lived on Madagascar. They became extinct 1200-1000 years ago.

They would have grown to up to 3m tall and weigh 750kg. Elephant bird eggs weighed around 22 pounds with a fluid content of about two gallons and was 13 inches long, and this is reported as the largest egg ever laid by an animal.
