ANTIQUE COPPER BOX

A good antique decorative copper box of good weight, lined with wood - possibly intended as a humidor box.
The rectangular box has a particularly nice lid; it is cast in very deep relief and features a village setting with a mixture of seated and folk on horseback who are drinking, smoking and apparently engaged in conversation. Possibly of continental European origin.

Date: mid to late 19th Century.

Condition: Fair functional condition and left uncleaned with tarnished finish. The hinge works well, the lid shuts nicely. The lining is original. The felt base covering is original but stained and worn. The box was originally silver plated but it is now all absent / removed apart from traces around the inner closing edge of the lid. If the box was still silver plated the condition report would be 'very good' as it is free of damage or dents. The key is absent but the catch is in the unlocked position.
