ANTIQUE POLE FINIAL

An unusual and undoubtedly scarce antique brass flag or banner pole finial produced for G. Tutill. This fabulous finial is very decorative and could be reused or upcycled into a variety of projects, or just used as a display piece.
George Tutill established a successful business at 83 City Road, London from 1837 and produced fabulous woven silk banners and flags.
This finial, made to adorn a banner pole is a rare survivor. Made from brass which is now tarnished, it has considerable antique patina. It was originally finished in 'ormolu' (gilt brass) and would have been very expensive.

Date: mid to late 19th Century.

Condition: Fair antique condition. Left uncleaned, it has considerable patina and very deep tarnish and antique colour. It was originally finished in gilt, this has either tarnished or is absent as only a little is apparent on the underside of the base flange. The finial has a few minor dents and the original screw attachment spigot is rusted and bent.
