Dayton, Ohio's Slave, among the most influential hardcore funk bands of the '70s-'80s, unleashed many gifted musicians, most notably lead singer/drummer Steve Arrington. After Slave's 6th album, Arrington split and formed Hall of Fame. Originally released in '83, their Atlantic debut album presented a visceral, jazz-inflected funk style.
