Ծնվել է Գողթան գավառի Ագուլիս գյուղում: Սովորել է Մոսկվայի Լազարյան ճեմարանում: 1889թ. ավարտել է Մոսկվայի համալսարանի բանասիրական բաժինը, եղել նույն համալսարանի հայ ուսանողության ընկերության կազմակերպիչներից ու ղեկավարներից։ 1888-96թ. Մոսկվայում հրատարակել է «Հանդես գրականական և պատմական» պարբերականը, որտեղ տպագրվել են Միքայել Նալբանդյանի, Ռափայել Պատկանյանի, Պերճ Պռոշյանի, Ղազարոս Աղայանի, Արփիար Արփիարյանի, Հովհաննես Հովհաննիսյանի, Ալեքսանդր Ծատուրյանի, Գևորգ Բարխուդարյանի, Երվանդ Շահազիզի և ուրիշների արձակ, չափածո և գրականագիտական աշխատանքներն ու թարգմանությունները։ Իր տպարանում տպագրել է հայ գրողների երկերը, ինչպես նաև «Մարտ» թերթը։ Թարգմանել է Լ.Տոլստոյի «Հաջի Մուրադ»-ը, Մ.Գորկու պատմվածքներից մի քանիսը, Վիպպերի «Հին Արևելքը և Էգեյան կուլտուրան» գիրքը։ 1907թ. լույս է ընծայել «Անգլիայի պետական կազմը և քաղաքական կուսակցությունները» աշխատությունը։ 1920-ական թվականներին մասնակցել է Մոսկվայում արևելյան լեզուներով բառարանների հրատարակության աշխատանքներին։ Մահացել է Մոսկվայում:
