This is one side of a small polished fossilized agatized ammonite specimen which has been cut in half and which was collected from Madagascar, Africa. This specimen measures 1.62 inches long by 1.29 inches wide. This ammonite specimen is in great condition. Ammonites are an extinct group of marine invertebrate animals of the cephalopod group of mollusks which died out at the end of the Upper Cretaceous period (65 million years ago). Many of the ammonites have been agatized, and their inner chambers are often preserved as hollow cavities lined with crystals or filled with agate. This ammonite has been cut in half and the inner chambers are polished to reveal the inside detail and mineralization. This is one half of an Ammonite which has been cut in half and has been polished on the inside. Madagascar is a famous location for mining these amazingly preserved ammonite fossils from both the Jurassic and the Cretaceous periods. This ammonite would be a great addition to any rock, fossil and mineral collection.
