This is an excellent flash unit dedicated for many Minolta Dynax AF 35mm film SLR cameras (but NOT the early 5000, 7000, 9000 or late Dynax 3L, 30, 40 or 50 models, or digital cameras). It's very powerful, packed with features including tilt, swivel and power zoom, twin flash, TTL automatic exposure and wireless operation. This one's in fully working order and very good condition, supplied with a copy of the instructions and Alkaline batteries. Please read the full description for more important compatibility information. This description is copyright © Heritage Cameras.

The flash head tilts up to 90 degrees and swivels over 330 degrees for bounce flash in vertical or horizontal positions. Bounce flash gives much softer, more natural lighting than direct flash, and reduces the chance of redeye. A secondary flash tube is built in, and this fills in the shadows when bounce flash is used.

The flash has a power zoom mechanism which adjusts automatically or manually over a huge range from 24mm wide angle to 105mm (or longer) telephoto lenses. The powerful guide number varies with the zoom setting from around 23 to 42 (meters) or 75 to 138 (feet) with ISO 100. TTL auto, manual and low power settings from 1/2 down to 1/64th for close ups and faster recycling.

There's a very comprehensive LCD control panel on the rear which provides distances in meters and feet, zoom settings, modes and bounce indicators. Backlight for reading the LCD panel in low light. Ready light and test button. Confirmation of correct exposure on the LCD after a picture has been taken. Distance information on the LCD changes automatically.

Dedicated TTL (Through The Lens) flash control system for extremely accurate exposures. Works automatically in all exposure modes including program, setting shutter speeds and/or apertures automatically. Automatic fill-in flash in daylight. Multi-frequency mode gives a multiple flash (strobe) effect, for 2 to 10 flashes at 1 to 100 flashes per second. Modelling mode provides a preview of what the picture will look like, by firing multiple flashes at high or low speed.

Wireless TTL flash operation – the flash can be set to fire automatically when it detects the light from another flash (including one built in to the camera), for multiple flash setups. Small mini-stands (not included) are available elsewhere on eBay to assist with off-camera operation if required. The flash works in the camera's autofocus mode, and has a large AF illuminator on the front to assist focusing in low light with suitable cameras. This operates automatically when required, up to around 5m (16 feet).

This independent Centon FG105D ML flashgun is very nicely made, and takes 4x standard AA batteries including disposable alkaline (supplied), or rechargeable types. An auto power saving feature switches off power if the flash hasn't been used for five minutes.

An excellent flash unit for most Minolta Dynax and Maxxum film users.

Compatibility

This flash has the proprietary Minolta shoe fitting, and will work with many Minolta Dynax 35mm film SLR models, BUT NOT ALL.

Compatible cameras include the Dynax 3000i, 5000i, 7000i, 8000i, 2xi, 3xi, 5xi, 7xi, 9xi, SPxi, 300si, 303si, 404si, 500si, 450si, 500si Super, 550si, 505si, 505si Super, 600si, 650si, 700si, 800si, 60, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9 and the APS Vectis S-1 (but NOT the S-100 which has no external flash shoe).
