Uncompromising filmmaker, who celebrated her eighty years in February, graduated from FAMU in Prague and joined the leading Czech New Wave. Her best-known films include The Apple Game (1976), Panelstory (1979), The Calamity (1981), Vlčí bouda (1986), Šašek a královna (1986), Kopytem sem, kopytem tam (1988), and Inheritance (1992). In 1997 she made a black comedy Traps, Traps, and Traps. She has won numerous national and international awards for her work, including the French Knight of Arts and Literature and the Czech Medal of Merit. In 2000 she won the Special Award (Golden Crystal Globe) at the Karlovy Vary IFF for her long-term contribution to world cinematography
