Detailed Description

This item consists of ONLY ONE of the four perforated blocks as shown in the picture, not all four blocks. I will send out any one block based on availability. If you want to specify any particular block, please check with me before you bid the item or place the order.

Original Printing was released in Year 2012. It has 2012 printed on stamp and V111111 as the plate number.

Additional Printing was released in Year 2014. It has 2012 printed on stamp and C111111 as the plate number.

If you purchase the Purple Heart 2012 stamp sheet or any plate block or plate single, you will notice the plate number is different between these two printings. If you just buy the stamp(s) without any margin, there is no difference.

The imperforated no die cut sheet (or plate block/pair) is only available with V111111 as the plate number.

Please see below with more details.

Plate number collectors have something new to look for: a different prefix letter for the 2012 United States Purple Heart forever stamp (Scott 4704) issued in a pane of 20.

The plate block from the new printing, pictured here, carries the number C111111. The original issue is inscribed V111111.

Individual stamps from the two versions are indistinguishable: The die cuts, tagging, year date and design are all the same. The press sheet configuration of 21 panes per sheet also remains the same.

Stamp printer CCL Label Inc. of Clinton, S.C., produced the new variety in January, according to information revealed in the First Quarter edition of the U.S. Postal Service’s USA Philatelicmail-order catalog.

The change in the prefix letter is the result of Avery Dennison’s secure printing division being acquired in July 2013 by CCL Label.

The plate numbers on stamps printed by CCL following the acquisition have carried the C prefix.

The U.S. Postal Service continues to honor the sacrifices of the men and women who serve in the U.S. military with the issuance of thePurple Heart Medal (Forever®) stamp that depicts the medal suspended from its purple and white ribbon. The Purple Heart is awarded in the name of the President of the United States to members of the U.S. military who have been wounded or killed in action. According to the Military Order of the Purple Heart, an organization for combat-wounded veterans, the medal is “the oldest military decoration in the world in present use and the first award made available to a common soldier.”

Established by General George Washington during the Revolutionary War, the badge of distinction for meritorious action — a heart made of purple cloth — was discontinued after the war. In 1932, on the 200th anniversary of Washington's birth, the decoration was reinstated and redesigned as a purple heart of metal bordered by gold, suspended from a purple and white ribbon. In the center of the medal is a profile bust of George Washington beneath his family coat of arms.

The 2012 stamp, renamed Purple Heart Medal, is a redesign of the 2011 Purple Heart with Ribbon stamp. To emphasize the brilliant purple appearing on the medal and in its ribbon, designer Jennifer Arnold slightly enlarged the Purple Heart medal and placed it on a pure white background. The typography on the stamp did not change.
