Unusual early 20th century oval folk art frame with collaged Postage Stamps. Most of the stamps are United States issues with several foreign issues scattered in the pattern. Stamps date from the 1860s into the 1890s with one cancelation reading 1903. Quite a variety of stamps from basic issues to commemoratives to revenues. Frame appears to be hand cut from a plank and does not have a rabbet so whatever was displayed was tacked to the back of the frame to show through. Surface was heavily varnished when made which has darkened considerably giving it a well aged patina. There are spots of loss and rubbing as well. Overall the frame measures 16 5/8 x 18 3/4 inches from point detail to point detail with an opening that measures 10 3/8 x 11 7/8 inches. Frame has a warp to the wood so it does not sit flat to the wall but still has a great presence.
