Millefiori comes from the Latin or Italian mille, meaning a thousand and fiori meaning flower or together a thousand flowers. The glass making technique can be traced back to 8th Century ancient Rome, however large scale production for the trade market began in the late 1800’s. They have been called everything from Mosaic beads, love beads to “Morocco”. These beads were collected throughout small villages in Ghana one by one and reassembled in a larger necklace.
