Description:

A handmade American jigsaw by an unknown maker in the shape of 3 flying doves on a stand. It has 4 pieces. This is a beautifully made example of woodcraft, the grain of the wood is very attractive and bird has a tiny hole drilled through to make the eye.  

This piece was part of the collection of automata and moving toys owned by Sir Nicholas Goodison, I have included some information about him below.

Sir Nicholas Goodison (1927-2013) was a true polymath, as well as having a highly successful career in the financial industry he was also a leading figure in and patron of the Arts. He amassed his collection of sculpture and toys over a 50 year period whilst travelling the world.  


Identifying Marks / Makers Marks: Unmarked.

Age / date of manufacture:Purchased at "Phoenix", Washington USA in 1987.
Size: Measures 5 1/8" (12.7 cm) x 4" (10.2 cm) when constructed. The jigsaw pieces are approximately 5/8" (1.6cm) thick.

Condition: Complete and in excellent undamaged condition. Has an item number written on the base in pen as it has come from a toy collection. This piece has not been played with as it was purchased as part of a toy collection. Please see the photographs.
