TOY BRIDGE

for slot ca racing set

The old Dunlop tire Bridge was used at Le Mans 24hr Endurance Race in France.

made out of a rubberized / paper Machete mix

It measures about 21 inches across and 9” tall

used on the larger format slot car race tracks

original paint

Is shows typical warpage ,

as the rubberized composite material has aged , but is still in displayable - useable condition

( It sits a little crooked , It could easily be worked with a hand /draw file along the bottom , in order to stand straight up again )

these bridges are very scarce -

they were usually the first thing discarded by the children , who cared more about car racing than the esthetic looks of the setup

The 24 Hours of Le Mans was first run on 26 and 27 May 1923,

through public roads around Le Mans.

Originally planned to be a three-year event awarded the Rudge-Whitworth Triennial Cup, with a winner being declared by the car which could go the farthest distance over three consecutive 24-hour races, this idea was abandoned in 1928. Overall winners were declared for every year depending on who covered the farthest distance by the time 24 hours were up. The early races were dominated by French, British, and Italian drivers, teams, and cars, with Bugatti, Bentley, and Alfa Romeo being the top brands. Innovations in car design began appearing at the track in the late 1930s, with Bugatti and Alfa Romeo running highly aerodynamic bodywork to run down the Mulsanne Straight at faster speeds.
