Mit der Serie French Excellence feiert die Monnaie de Paris die Tradition des französischen Kunsthandwerks. Die 2023 Ausgabe ist in Zusammenarbeit mit Lacoste eine Hommage an die erste Sportbekleidungsmarke in der Geschichte sowie an ihr 90. Gründungsjubiläum im Jahr 2023. Dabei vereint das Motiv der Goldmünze die besondere Verbindung der Marke Lacoste mit dem Leistungssport Tennis. Zu sehen ist am oberen Münzrand ein Krokodil, das Emblem der Marke und der Spitzname vom Gründer René Lacoste, sowie ein Tennisball. Das Krokodil blickt hinunter auf die Silhouette des Tennis-Champions. Der Hintergrund aus rechteckigen Linien soll an die Sandplätze von Roland-Garros erinnern. Die Rückseite der Münze ist wie bei einem Tennisball in drei verschiedene Bereiche unterteilt und zeigt die Textur einer Krokodilhaut, die Textur eines Lacoste Poloshirts aus Piqué-Baumwolle und die Textur eines Tennisschlägers. Ebenfalls im Design enthalten ist der Nennwert, dessen Nummer "0" von einem Golfball dargestellt wird, eine Hommage an die Golfmeisterin Simone Thion de la Chaume und Frau von René Lacoste. Die weltweit bekannte französische Bekleidungsmarke Lacoste wurde 1933 von dem erfolgreichen Tennisspieler René Lacoste (1904-1996) gegründet. Das Markenzeichen, ein stilisiertes Krokodil, ist international bekannt und ziert nicht nur Bekleidung, sondern auch Parfüm, Lederwaren, Brillen und Schuhe. With the French Excellence series, the Monnaie de Paris celebrates the tradition of fine French craftsmanship. The motive of the gold coin combines the brand's special connection with the competitive sport of tennis. The upper edge of the coin features a crocodile, the emblem of the brand and the nickname of the founder René Lacoste, as well as a tennis ball. The crocodile looks down on the silhouette of the tennis champion. The background of rectangular lines is meant to recall the clay courts of Roland-Garros. The reverse of the coin is divided into three different sections, just like a tennis ball, depicting the texture of a crocodile skin, the texture of a Lacoste piqué cotton polo shirt and the texture of a tennis racket. Also included in the design is the denomination, with the number "0" being represented by a golf ball, a tribute to golf champion Simone Thion de la Chaume and wife of René Lacoste.
