Description: It is an original antique map approximately 150 years old from the 1877 edition of August Petermann's Geographische Mitteilungen, published in Gotha by Justus Perthes, a copy of the title page is included. The map is well documented with the date of 1877 in the bottom margin and the title of the publication and printing/publishing info in small print around the margins, see the pics. Petermann was very important in the formation of the Gotha School or Petermann School of cartography, which produced some of the most accurate maps of the 19th century. Petermann published many of the new cartographic findings based on explorations and new information in the Mittheilungen, which he began in 1855, a remarkable publication during the period and one that continued long after his death until 2004. Certainly the maps of the last half of the 19th century in which Petermann had control are of rare quality and document, in many cases for the first time, exploration routes and new land forms. The map is not mounted nor matted, being sold as a single sheet as seen in the first pic. Overall, a very well preserved antique map with beautiful color in almost excellent condition!
Size: The map image measures approximately 13 1/4 by 16 inches (33x40cm) on a 16 by 19 page (40x48cm) as seen in the pic
Condition: The map is in Very Good to Excellent condition with overall tonal aging, basically as seen in the pics with binding edge untrimmed and a horizontal and two vertical folds as issued. There is a slight crease along the right border, otherwise it is very clean, printed on good paper, blank on the reverse. The pics are of the actual map.
