Description: It is an original antique engraved map over 175 years old with original handcoloring as issued. It is an engraved map with plate marks embossed around the edges, from Tanner's Universal Atlas as stated in the top margin, published in Philladelphia by H.S. Tanner as stated in the bottom margin. The run of the atlas lasted from about 1836-1846, thus a circa date of 1840 for the map. The plates for Tanner's Atlas would eventually be sold to Mitchell who modified them for his Universal Atlas. It is a very beautiful map with strong original color on bright heavy page that would frame up well.
Size: The map image measures approximately 11 1/2 by 14 inches (29x36cm) on a 14 by 17 1/2" (36x44cm) page.
Condition: The map is in Very Good condition for its age with overall tonal aging and original handcoloring as issued, blank on the reverse, printed on a strong flexible page, basically as seen in the pics. There are a few spots in the margin and a couple of minor chips and edge tears, otherwise it is very clean with a nice antique quality that would frame up nicely. The pic is of the actual map you are bidding.
