Gibson Murphy Lab 1961 ES-335 Reissue Heavy Aged 60s Cherry SN. 130396

~ Murphy Lab ~

The Murphy Lab, which was born in the Custom Shop, is a newly established laboratory in the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville. We specialize in processing to reproduce the appearance and playing comfort that have changed over time.

Tom Murphy, a founding member of the Gibson Custom Shop and a project leader for the development of the Historic Collection, has since been active in a technique called aging, which gives new guitars a vintage look and feel. . Tom's passion for vintage guitars and his deep knowledge of the craft have enabled him to recreate the natural lacquer cracks and wear from playing on Gibson guitars.

Tom Murphy and Gibson scientifically analyzed the nitrocellulose lacquer of the 1950s and 1960s, which caused cracks called weather checks over time, unraveled the process of change, and tested prototypes of all models. In addition, we have developed a lacquer process that reproduces a vintage-like natural weather check.

Murphy Labs was conceived when Tom Murphy led the Gibson Custom Shop team to test prototypes for all body shapes, finishes and aging levels. As a result, it was established within the Gibson Custom Shop to carry out aging that pursues unprecedented reality and commitment.

The existence of Tom Murphy and his artistic creations have played an important role in Gibson's history and will forever be known as Murphy Labs.

This machine is a 1961 ES-335 Reissue with "Heavy Aged", which is the third aging level among four stages. The 1961 ES-335 Reissue features a highly playable slim neck, dot position marks, a short pick guard, and an open window center block. The horn cutaway on the body is slender, and the body thickness is about 41mm, making it closer to the original details. This thickness of the body fits your body perfectly, so you can enjoy playing while feeling the breathing of the instrument.

Heavy Aged reproduces the state where the finish of the neck and body is peeled off and the belt buckle scratches due to hard play on tours and gigs. Built with heavy aged hardware from Murphy Labs. This model has been aged so that you can enjoy the virtuosity of the skilled Murphy Lab craftsmen so that you can enjoy the feeling of holding the original. It expresses the realistic paint luster and weather check that has been used and played for many years. The edge of the fingerboard is rolled, and the excellent grip makes the player even more happy.

Basic specifications adopt the latest Historic Spec. It continues to be equipped with unpotted Custombucker Alnico III pickups, updated assemblies and True Historic parts. The sharp response that follows the picking will magically captivate the player from the moment the guitar is plugged into the amp!
The controllable assembly keeps the brightness moderately even when the volume is turned down, not to mention the good sound clarity when the tone is turned down, and it will show great compatibility with modern usage! !

It is the latest arrival of Gibson Custom Shop, which continues to evolve further by returning to the origin. Please enjoy the wonderful tone unique to Custom Shop and the powerful aging produced by Murphy Lab!
