FINE RARE & UNUSUAL PAIR of Geo.III CASED STERLING SILVER

FIGURAL BERRY SPOONS - 1799

These are a superb pair of, quite unusual, cased pair of latter 18th. Century Sterling Silver London made Old English Pattern figural berry spoons made by 'T.D' (for the London silver smiths Thomas Dicks). Depicted in the Old English spoon form they're of the finest quality and rendered, in the orientalist style, with, unusually, stunning hand chased and incised relief depictions of birds in flight among bamboo stems and leaves to the scalloped edged bowls, while the stems are finely hand engraved with the same bird motif leading to a vacant cartouche at their tops. They are contained in a green silk and velvet lined burgundy Morocco leather presentation case - see detailed photographs.

They measure SPOONS - 9" (23cm ) L x 1 3/4" (4.5cm) W (at the bowl), the BOX - 10 1/2" (27cm) l x 4 5/8" (12cm) W approx; and are in excellent condition with no defect at all to report apart from very light age wear to the edges of the velvet recessed spoon seats (looks like the spoons have been with the box for a very long time - they are getting toward 220 years old, or so) and the outer case is a bit tired - see detailed photographs.

These are a superb and quite rare pair of period quite unique berry spoons with stunning repousse images which are in lovely original condition and with a realistic, yet low start price should get considerable interest from all collectors
