USS OGLALA CM-4 offered is a United States Navy first day cover

postmarked from Springfield, MA on March 26, 1968.  Blue printed

photo of actual ship on cachet #2759 by Alvin Eckert, USCS #9964.

This 386 foot ship was former Cape Cod passenger ship converted into  

a North Sea mine planter ship in 1917. During WW II, she was deployed to Hawaii,

and was sunk in the Dec 7th 1941 enemy attack The proud vessel was salvaged (a very difficult effort)

and served as a landing craft engine repair ship in the Pacific Theater and earned one WW II Battle Star.

Cover was prepared on a 1.04 cent liberty bell stamped envelope (FDOI) plus a five cent flag stamp.

Seller has over 60 different covers for ships attacked at Pearl Harbor in 1941.
