This BIG ca. 1780 tin-glazed faience soup tureen comes with original lid and 12" under platter with an unusual Adams-inspired hand-painted design in manganese purple-black and chromium oxide yellow.  The tureen alone measures 10 1/2" tall x 9 1/4" across (10 1/2" with applied handles) x 5 3/4" (foot) and boasts a delightfyl oversize spheroid knop.  You will note scattered, extensive glaze chipping and loss to the edges of the rim, lid and foot as well as the handles.  The main body of the tureen has no cracks or chips while its lid has several edge chips with old re-color and/or repair.  There are numerous firing and glaze imperfections to all 3 pieces as well as crazing and use related discoloration.  The edge of the platter has molded "feather" design while the tureen has only painted feather edging and the tureen features amphorae with 1/2 of the body in yellow; there is no yellow on the platter and the underside of the platter hs kiln touch marks and accretions.  I have not been able to identify the maker: the feathered edges suggest an English origin to me prior to 1800.
