Jewellery designers Else Berntsen Hughes (1938-2002) and Paul Hughes (1934-1981) met in London at the London County Central School of Arts and Crafts. There they studied for silver worker and jeweler respectively.
In 1959, the couple established the jewelry workshop Studio Else & Paul. At the establishment, they were determined not to work in the spirit of Scandinavian design. Else and Paul's thought these jewelry was boring and lacked excitement.
