Crater Lake National Park: This park includes road-side viewing sites overlooking the lake from almost the entire rim. Tourists and tour buses enjoy this site, most visitors drive autos on the 33 mile rim road. The volcanic cone in the western middle of the lake, is Wizard Island. The park was established in 1902 and has the deepest US lake at 1,949 feet. The surface of the lake is at 6,178 feet elevation. Also see Phantom Ship rock on the SE side. The lake was created by the collapse of a huge 11, 000' tall volcano, Mount Mazama in 5,700 BC .
